Position Overview: Los Angeles, CA Program Coordinator (part-time)

  • Location: Los Angeles, CA
  • Reporting To: LA Senior Program Manager
  • Work Environment: Remote, with required local travel within LA County
  • Work Hours: Up to 25 hours per week, primarily Monday - Friday, with occasional nights and/or weekends
  • Status: Part-time, non-exempt
  • Duration: This is a grant-funded position with a possible end date of June 2026.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting relationships with schools and community-based organizations across Los Angeles County and assisting with the implementation of Common Threads’ in-school and after-school programs. This role ensures high-quality program delivery through scheduling, auditing, and maintaining clear communication with school administrators, staff, community partners, and the Common Threads team.

Program Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and maintenance of relationships with elementary schools and community-based organizations across Los Angeles County.
  • Assist with the recruitment of new schools and partners in alignment with grant goals, especially initiatives that promote food equity and local food access.
  • Support the implementation of Farm to School activities across LAUSD schools, including coordinating school partnerships and helping facilitate the delivery of fresh, locally sourced produce.
  • Collaborate with LAUSD Food and Nutrition Services and other stakeholders to expand access to fresh foods and nutrition education programming.
  • Support site-level activities related to capacity building and food distribution under the LA Food Equity Fund.
  • Work closely with community partners and internal teams to track participant engagement, including collection of required data such as participant ZIP codes.
  • Manage operational aspects of programming, including maintaining rosters, assisting with curriculum delivery logistics, and supporting class scheduling.
  • Monitor program quality by conducting regular site visits and providing on-site support to chef instructors, nutrition educators, and interns.
  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of Small Bites Trainings and school-based nutrition classes.
  • Support the delivery of school-wide assemblies and other educational sessions as needed.
  • Accurately input and maintain all program and participant data in the CRM system (Salesforce).
  • Ensure timely collection and submission of participant surveys and evaluation materials.
  • Represent Common Threads at community events and meetings as needed, championing the organization’s mission of promoting health and wellness through culturally responsive nutrition education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Knowledge of Los Angeles local food system required 
  • Understanding of nutrition and cooking preferred
  • 3-5+ years of experience in not-for-profit or farming organizations
  • Experience working with Salesforce or a CRM preferred
  • Ability to work within a mission-driven environment to develop professional and respectful relationships with people both internal and external to Common Threads
  • Ability to work independently and remotely with confidence and outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational, time management, and logical thinking skills; must be task-oriented
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skill set
  • Possess positive, upbeat energy and a passion for wellness, food access, tolerance and awareness, and making a positive impact on society
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and adapting their roles and communication style depending on the task
  • Must have access to a car and be willing to travel locally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local food systems initiatives (e.g., Farm to School, Food Equity efforts).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred), but not required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $26/hr
  • Mileage will be reimbursed.
